Is having nothing to wear a recurring scenario?
Do you ever just look at your closet and you’re like, I just don’t feel like wearing anything in here, and I just don’t feel like I have anything in here. Aaaaah!
If this happens consistently, and you have a lot of clothing but you just feel like you have nothing to wear there are five reasons why.
No style or wardrobe direction
You have to have direction, to figure out where you want to go right?
If you’re driving somewhere you gotta kind of know the lay of the land. That is also important when you are buying items and adding the to your closet. You’ve gotta figure out what look you’re going for. What theme you are trying to create. What’s your personal style?
Without direction you simply end up accumulating a lot of different pieces that you might like, you might even love, but they don’t have a united direction. They don’t help you get somewhere. You don’t have a direction and you just add things to your closet, which can be fun, but at the end of the day you can also end up feeling like you have nothing to wear.
Your wardrobe outfits do not play nice together
Now it’s great to have a top you like, a skirt you like, a pair of pants you like, even a shirt you like, a dress you like… All these things!
Yes, but they all have to talk nice to each other. If you’re items don’t talk nice to each other, you will feel at a loss. You will know what to wear with say you have a dress and you have an event and you buy it, and you wear it to that event and you like it, but does it fit in with everything else?
When you go shopping and you see a shirt you like, does it fit in with other items in your closet? It’s important to look at items when you’re shopping, when you’re building your closet, and see that they talk friendly to each other. That you can mix and match pieces, that they will all have some sort of unity, that can help you find things to wear much quicker.
You have not defined your personal style
This is sort of similar to direction, but I think being able to describe to people what your personal style is, will help you immensely. It’ll also help you have a wardrobe that speaks to that. Now I’m not saying personal style will solve all your problems, because it probably won’t. But, It’s one of the steps for sure. By defining you’re personal style you’re able to tell others what you like and don’t like, and you’re able to define yourself, you’re able to speak to, this is Daisy, this is what she wears. This is what she likes; this is what she goes for. These are the kind of cuts she likes; these are the kind of fabrics she likes to throw in. These are the influencers that are much closely aligned with her style. By not defining your personal style, you miss out on that essential piece.
Defining your personal style is super important because it will give you direction of what you need to into your closet, what you like to wear to different occasions. It will also give you cohesion.
Too many trends and not enough staples
Your problem may be too much noise in your wardrobe. I like to think of noise as trends, outfits people thought were nice, something you saw on TV and went and bought. It’s nice to notice and appreciate other looks. It’s nice to have variety, it’s nice to change it up every once in a while and update your wardrobe but, if you you’re wardrobe is just filled with this; you’ll end up with trends, and not staples.
Staples are important.
Staples are the stuff you wear on a daily basis. So, if you’re wardrobe is full of trends and pieces you liked at one time, and people thought you should wear more. You’re not going to be able to feel confident. And you’re going to walk into your closet and feel like you have nothing to wear.
You’re not shopping smart
Shopping smart is a game changer. When you walk into a department store, you gotta realize, they want you to buy things. And if you give into all the temptations, you won’t end up with a wardrobe that is really unique and speaks to you, and is you. You’ll end up with things you like, yes for sure, but without shopping smart, you miss out on things that could help you. You miss out on all the staples that can help build your closet.
So before you shop, you need to take a step back, you need to figure out what you need, why you need it, what kind of style you’re looking for. Then when you do go shopping, you’re able to laser beam focus on finding those items that add to your closet. Not take up space. Items that you can wear over and over again, not just once in a while.
So five reasons why and possibly five solutions, to why you have nothing to wear.
